The Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Protection Unit of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has successfully dismantled a child trafficking ring, rescuing two victims in the process.
This operation highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat the serious issue of human trafficking in the region.
The breakthrough came with the capture of a female suspect who had been evading authorities.
She was apprehended in Kabete after a thorough investigation that followed a disturbing report of child abduction from Kakamega County.
The incident took place on June 6, 2024, when the suspect deceived a farm worker by claiming she would take the child to enroll her in a sponsorship program.
The program allegedly promised a monthly stipend of 9,000 shillings.
However, after luring the child away, the suspect vanished without a trace, leaving the child’s family in anguish and despair.
The DCI acted swiftly, launching an extensive investigation that involved gathering evidence and tracking the suspect’s movements.
Their relentless pursuit ultimately led to the successful rescue of the victims and the capture of the perpetrator.
The agency’s commitment to eradicating human trafficking and protecting vulnerable children remains a top priority.
Amin Mohammed, the head of the DCI, emphasized the organization’s dedication to safeguarding children’s rights and ensuring that such heinous acts do not go unpunished.
He stated that this operation serves as a warning to traffickers and a reassurance to the community that law enforcement is vigilant and responsive.
This case underscores the critical need for continued public awareness and collaboration between authorities and communities to prevent child trafficking and protect the rights of children.
The DCI encourages anyone with information about such activities to come forward, contributing to the collective effort to combat this grave issue.
