Police in Nyakach, Kisumu County recovered the body of an unidentified man from the shores of Lake Victoria.
The body was spotted partially submerged in the lake at Bugo West Village, Kabodho West Location, on Wednesday, September 16, 2026.
According to the police, the discovery was made by a herdsman who alerted authorities.
Police visited the scene and retrieved the body.
The deceased was identified as an adult male aged approximately 60 years. The body was in an advanced state of decomposition.
Preliminary assessment suggested that the man may have drowned and that his body could have been carried by water currents from another location.
However, the exact circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear and are subject to further investigation.
The body was taken to Nyakach County Mortuary, where it was preserved pending identification, a post-mortem examination and further investigations.
And a 23-year-old man was found dead in a suspected drowning incident in Kebariga Village, Nyagwekoa Sub-location, Nyamira County.
The deceased, identified as Simion Mogoba Mong’are was reportedly last seen on Tuesday, September 15, at around 7pm.
Police officers visited the scene, where the incident was processed and documented.
The body was subsequently moved to Ibara Mission Hospital mortuary for preservation, pending a post-mortem examination to establish the cause of death.
Police have commenced investigations into the incident.
Meanwhile, police in Athi River, Machakos County, are investigating the death of an eight-month-old baby whose body was found unresponsive at a residence in Kyumbi.
The deceased was reportedly found dead on the morning of Wednesday, September 16, 2026.
The circumstances surrounding the child’s death remain under investigation.
