Police are investigating an incident where a decomposed body of an unidentified man was discovered in a banana plantation in Muhoroni Sub-County, Kisumu County, on Saturday afternoon.
According to police, the body was found in Odiowang Village, Songor West Sub-Location, Tamu Location.
Police said the body, believed to be that of an adult male, was lying on its back and was fully clothed.
The remains were in an advanced state of decomposition, with both legs eaten up to the knees and both hands up to the wrists.
Investigators noted that no visible physical injuries were observed on the body.
The scene was documented by DCI officers before the body was removed to Ahero Sub-County Hospital Mortuary, where it is being preserved pending identification and a post-mortem examination.
Police said no one at the scene was able to identify the deceased. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death are ongoing.
Elsewhere, a 76-year-old man died after reportedly slipping and falling down a steep rocky cliff while herding goats in Keiyo South Sub-County, Elgeyo Marakwet County.
The deceased, identified as Chemweno Limo Marus, left his home on Friday afternoon to graze his goats in the Kapsogom area but failed to return home.
According to police, concern was raised at around 5:50 p.m. when the goats returned home without him.
His granddaughter, alerted family members after noticing that he was missing.
Relatives, villagers and local administrators launched a search and later found his body at Sichone Village within Kapsogom Sub-Location.
Police officers who visited the scene established that the elderly man is believed to have accidentally slipped while herding the animals and rolled down a rocky escarpment estimated to be about 200 metres deep.
The body had multiple injuries, including a broken right leg, a deep bruise on the left leg, bruises on the stomach and both cheeks, and a deep cut near the left eye.
The body was moved to Iten County Referral Hospital Mortuary for preservation pending a post-mortem examination.
Police have classified the incident as an accidental death.
