Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has encouraged artists and musicians to use their talents to preserve our cultural practices and traditions.
He emphasized that the government supports the growth of the creative economy and wants to see cultural heritage promoted through art.
Addressing a gathering at Honi Resort in Kieni, Nyeri County during the Ngogoyo Ya Rware music event, Gachagua assured that security agencies will no longer disrupt cultural events.
However, he urged elders and custodians of tradition to ensure that these events are not hijacked by those with malicious intentions or who promote outdated practices.
“Cultural events will no longer be disrupted by security agencies.
But the elders should make sure their events are not hijacked by people harboring bad intentions and those who would propagate the wrong things, support practices overtaken by time, or misguide people into cultic practices,” said Mr Gachagua.

The event, attended by thousands, celebrated Kikuyu music legends and aimed to preserve Agikuyu culture, beliefs, and values.
Gachagua challenged organizers to replicate such events in other counties within the Mt. Kenya region to promote cultural unity.
“It is important to own and nurture our culture and traditions and protect our history.
They are our heritage. It is important to protect and safeguard our values and customs.
We should love each other as a community no matter where we are,” said the Deputy President.
He stressed the importance of unity among communities in the Mt. Kenya region and urged residents to reject divisive politics.
Recognizing Kenya’s ethnic and cultural diversity, he advocated for the protection of the country’s rich traditions.
Gachagua reiterated the government’s commitment to eliminating illicit brews, which pose a danger to youth. He emphasized that legal alcohol would not be targeted in the crackdown.
“The government distinguishes between legal and illicit alcohol.
We have a series of interventions that will see complete eradication of the poisonous alcoholic drinks once and for all.
We must protect our youth from destruction by illicit and illegal brews.
Recently, we lost 23 people in Kirinyaga to poisonous alcoholic drinks,” said the Deputy President.
Highlighting the importance of strong family values, Gachagua called on parents and elders to instill good morals in children, noting the positive impact of eradicating illicit brews on family structures.
“Let us build strong families and take care of our children. I am grateful families are coming back again, resulting from the government’s decision to eradicate the illicit brews,” he said.
