Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is scheduled to hold a press conference on Monday evening, just hours before the National Assembly is set to debate the impeachment motion against him.
Gachagua’s office extended an invitation to media outlets earlier in the day, stating that the address will take place at his official residence in Karen at 7 p.m.
The press conference comes as Gachagua faces an impeachment motion that accuses him of several constitutional violations.
The motion, introduced by Kibwezi West MP Mwengi Mutuse on October 1, alleges that Gachagua has been involved in dividing Kenyans along ethnic lines, undermining the presidency, violating his oath of office, and breaching the National Cohesion and Integration Act.
Additionally, he faces accusations of accumulating sh.5.2 billion in assets through corrupt practices, inciting the public against Nairobi County directives, gross misconduct, and bullying.
Following the tabling of the motion, it garnered the backing of 291 lawmakers in the National Assembly and subsequently moved to public participation across all 47 counties.
Gachagua will face the National Assembly on Tuesday, where his legal team, led by veteran lawyer Paul Muite, will present his defense against the charges.
As Gachagua prepares to address the public, many will be watching closely to hear his response to the allegations and his plan for the upcoming parliamentary session.
