Police in Kisii South Sub-County have launched investigations after a dismembered human leg was discovered along the banks of Iyabe River.
The gruesome discovery was reported on Friday, August 14, 2026, after an abandoned human limb was spotted along the riverbank within the Kerina Police Station area.
Police officers visited the scene and established that the limb was a decomposed left human leg.
According to the police, the limb had been wrapped in a red biohazard bag and appeared to have been severed using a sharp object.
Investigators processed and documented the scene before recovering part of the human foot and transferring it to the mortuary at Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital.
The remains are being preserved at the facility pending identification and a postmortem examination, which is expected to provide further information on the circumstances surrounding the death and dismemberment.
Police have not yet established the identity of the deceased or where and when the person was killed.
Detectives are expected to widen their investigations as they seek to establish the origin of the remains, identify the deceased and determine whether the discovery is linked to a murder.
Police said further information would be released as investigations progress.
Meanwhile, a three-year-old girl was killed and her two-year-old sister seriously injured after a mud-walled house collapsed in Boqonssar village, Mandera North Sub-County.
The incident occurred at about 5pm on Friday, August 14, 2026, at a home where the two children were inside the house when it suddenly collapsed.
The structure had been weakened by a prolonged termite infestation before it gave way.
Police rushed to the scene and found the children trapped in the collapsed structure.
The three-year-old died on the spot.
Her younger sister aged two, sustained serious head injuries and was rushed to Rhamu Sub-County Hospital, where she was admitted for treatment.
The body of the deceased was removed to Rhamudimtu Level 3A Hospital, where a clinical postmortem examination was conducted.
The body was subsequently released to the family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.
Police have documented the incident as a death and serious injury case as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the collapse continue.
And a man drowned after slipping and falling into River Opilu in Rachuonyo East, Homa Bay County.
The deceased, identified as Paul Otieno Onge’ele, was reportedly crossing the river at the Karoko area when he slipped and fell headfirst into the water.
The exact time of the incident was not immediately established.
Police established that Onge’ele had drowned and died in the river.
The deceased was reportedly known to be a habitual drinker, although police did not immediately establish whether alcohol consumption played a role in the incident.
Officers processed the scene before the body was removed and taken to Jawabu Funeral Home at Kadongo Trading Centre.
Police have recorded the incident as a drowning as investigations continue.
