There will be disruption of businesses at various places ahead and during the arrival of US First Lady Jill Biden in Kenya on Friday February 24.
Traffic flow on some roads in and out of Nairobi will be affected for hours as she will be moved from one place to another, police warned and urged cooperation.
Terminal two at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) will be closed on Friday and Sunday as it arrives and leaves.
The closure of the terminal is to facilitate smooth VVIP and operations as Dr. Biden arrives and leaves the country.
Kenya Airport Authority announced the terminal will be closed on Friday and Sunday at specific hours.
The authority said terminal two should be cleared of any aircraft and vehicles on the mentioned days.
The terminal will be closed between 11 am and 5 pm on Friday and on Sunday between 6 am and 6 pm.
“This is therefore to advise you to relocate your operations to Terminal one within the stipulated time period to allow smooth facilitation of the VVIP and operations,” the statement dated February 20 read.
US First Lady will also visit Namibia in the same week.
Her African tour comes amid the desire to grow relations with the US.
She has visited Africa five times before, including when her husband was Vice-President in the Obama administration, but this will be her first in Kenya, and a third in Namibia.
On Tuesday, a senior US Administration Official told reporters that Dr. Biden will travel to the two countries in line with the resolutions of the recent US-Africa Summit in Washington in which President Joe Biden promised more engagements with Africa.
And a statement from the White House indicated the trip from February 22 to 26 will “strengthen the United States’ partnerships on the African continent, and advance our shared priorities in the region.”
“Dr. Biden’s engagements will focus on the empowerment of women and youth, efforts to address food insecurity, and promoting our shared democratic values,” the dispatch said.
