DJ Joseph Mwenda, known as DJ Joe Mfalme, has been released from custody in connection with the ongoing investigation into the death of Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officer Felix Kelian.
Alongside five others, including three police officers, Mwenda will now serve as a state witness, as decided by the court on Monday.
The remaining co-accused individuals are Eric Kariuki Gathua, Simon Wambugu Wanjiru, Khadija Abdi Wako, Sammy Cheruiyot Rotich, and Agnes Kerubo Mogoiare.
All of them had been held in custody while the police wrapped up their inquiries into the incident.
The decision to release Mwenda and designate him, along with the other accused, as state witnesses was made following a directive from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). In a letter dated April 5, 2024, the DPP instructed that Allan Ochieng, also known as Hype Balo, previously implicated in the assault on Kelian, now faces murder charges.
