Wajir governor loser Dr. Hassan Adam will appeal the High Court’s decision of upholding the declaration of Ahmed Abdallah as the head of the county by the polls body.
Hassan told the press that he has material facts that elections were bungled in three constituencies during the 2022 elections.
“However, we are dissatisfied with this decision and want to take this opportunity to announce that we shall be moving to the Court of Appeal to challenge the verdict by the high court,” Hassan said.
“There were unlawful electoral practices and numerous irregularities that were recorded in the three constituencies of Eldas, Wajir West and Wajir East including violence that led to the postponement of voting especially in Eldas by one more day.”
According to him, voting was marred by incidents of insecurity that were choreographed for the sole purpose of scaring voters away from polling stations in Wajir East and Eldas.
He added that in Wajir West there was ballot stuffing, vote swapping, and failure to use KIEMS kits, and delay in result transmissions.
“We have already asked our lawyers to prepare for the appeal after the high court granted us the certified copies of its ruling and judgment yesterday.”
Hassan also used the opportunity to urge the county government and Non-governmental Organizations to continue dispensing their duties to the people.
“It’s clear that our petition is against individuals and not the county government and thus no one should use this case to deny the people of Wajir services.”
He accused the current county administration of underperforming despite receiving Sh4 billion in the last six months.
Abdullahi, who contested the seat for the second time bounced back into the county’s top seat after garnering 35,533 votes in the recently concluded polls.
He was closely followed by Jubilee Party’s Hassan Mohammed Adan who got 27,224 and former Deputy Governor Ahmed Ali Mukhtar who massed 21,859.
Hassan later challenged his election.
