Environment, Climate Change and Forestry Cabinet Secretary Adan Duale has ordered the immediate closure of Fay’s Bistro in Kilimani, Nairobi, due to noise violations.
In a post on X, Duale announced that a team from the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) is on-site to enforce the closure.
“This should serve as a clear warning to all clubs in residential areas.
Any establishment that continues to play loud music will face similar consequences.
This disregard for regulations will not be tolerated!” he declared.
The closure follows a raid by officials from the Nairobi City County Government, which occurred on Saturday evening in response to multiple noise complaints from nearby residents.
This operation is part of the city’s broader initiative to tackle noise pollution in residential neighborhoods.
Officials reportedly conducted the raid after the club’s management had received several warnings about the excessive noise levels.
This action comes shortly after Quivers Club in Kilimani announced its decision to stop playing loud music, following similar pressure from local authorities.
“After considering feedback from our neighbors and engaging in numerous conversations, we are excited to share this groundbreaking decision.
We will be the first club to adopt a unique approach by not playing music,” Quivers stated.
The club is situated close to State House, the Department of Defence, and various residential areas.
By eliminating loud music, Quivers aims to create an environment where guests can enjoy meals and drinks while having more meaningful conversations.
“Our innovative concept is designed to enhance guest experiences by removing the distraction of loud music.
We believe people can still connect and share joyful moments together,” the club added.
Management assured patrons that their dedicated staff would be present to ensure a welcoming and enjoyable atmosphere.
