The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has successfully reclaimed public land and a house in Nakuru Town, originally owned by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, that were allegedly fraudulently acquired by a former Member of Parliament.
This half-acre property is the 21st out of 24 prime government units that the EACC has been in the process of recovering.
The recovery of the remaining three units is still ongoing in court.
Speaking to the press from the site on Friday, EACC Spokesperson Eric Ngumbi stated that the recovered property, situated behind Taidys Hotel in Nakuru City, was designated for government housing and known as St. Xavier Estate.
The EACC resorted to legal action after repeated warnings to vacate the land were ignored. Investigations revealed that the land was illicitly acquired by the then Commissioner of Lands, Wilson Gachanja, on June 30, 1994, and subsequently transferred to former Aldai Member of Parliament, Jim Choge.
Justice Mwangi Njoroge of the Nakuru Environment and Land Court ruled in favor of the EACC in this case.
Additionally, the commission has urged all individuals occupying illegally acquired government land to surrender it or face legal consequences.
