The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) said Sunday it had recovered Sh345 million in public land in Nakuru.
Private individuals using private companies and proxies had grabbed the land from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development in Nakuru City Center.
The prime land, which spans 20 acres, was recovered after the anti-graft body filed a civil suit against three people: Saleh Chepkole, Titus Kipkemboi, former Commissioner of Lands Wilson Gachanja, and two private entities: Pembeni Limited and Liberty Assurance Company Limited.
“Both companies, Pembeni Limited and Liberty Assurance Company Limited are linked to former Member of Parliament for Aldai Constituency Jim Choge (deceased) and were used as conduits for the grabbing of this property,” reads part of the investigation by the EACC.
In Nakuru alone, the EACC is pursuing grabbed public property constituting agricultural land, road reserves, land reserved for expansion of state agencies, and Government houses for civil servants.
The EACC is seeking the recovery of some Sh7 billion worth of grabbed property within Nakuru county.
EACC CEO Twalib Mbarak urged all persons holding titles to seized government property across the country to consider voluntarily surrendering the property to the Commission rather than going through the costly and lengthy court process, which may still result in them surrendering the property and paying the suit is costs and interest to the Commission.
