In Eldoret court proceedings on Thursday, a grim narrative unfolded detailing a three-day house party that turned fatal when a lawyer allegedly killed a fellow attendee.
Kelvin Odhiambo, a private primary school teacher, recounted the tragic events leading to the demise of Calvin Ngaira, allegedly at the hands of Mr. Abel Mogaka, an advocate based in Eldoret.
Odhiambo revealed that the party, orchestrated by an advocate, drew over 10 guests, including Ngaira and Mogaka, to the Annex estate on the Eldoret-Nakuru highway in Uasin Gishu County on May 18, 2019.
According to court records, Mogaka purportedly inflicted fatal injuries on Ngaira, who later passed away at Medi-Heal Hospital in Eldoret.
Mogaka, who refutes the accusation, has been released on a Sh1 million bond with similar surety.
Odhiambo recounted the gathering’s activities, which included consuming alcohol and enjoying meals provided by the host throughout the day and night, with some guests watching football matches on television.
Around 5:30 am, Ngaira and a female companion departed, followed shortly by Mogaka, who was observed holding a beer glass.
Moments later, screams were heard, prompting Odhiambo to discover Ngaira lying on the ground, bleeding profusely from his neck.
He recounted finding broken glass and a beer bottle nearby, but due to intoxication, he couldn’t ascertain the precise cause of Ngaira’s fatal injury.
Following their arrest and a night at Kiambaa police station, Odhiambo and others were released after providing statements.
Another witness, Vivian Wanjiku, described encountering Ngaira outside the host’s residence, suffering from a severe neck wound and in visible distress.
She rushed to his aid, applying a towel to stem the bleeding.
As the trial progresses, these testimonies offer insights into the tragic events and raise questions about the circumstances leading to Ngaira’s death.
