Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Wisley Rotch has asked the Interior CS Kithure Kindiki to move KDF and GSU camps to River Kerio following increased attacks by gunmen in the last week.
Rotich said the bandits have clearly shown that they don’t fear the ongoing operation.
“I have escalated this to the minister of interior Prof.Kindiki and the KDF in charge and requested them to move KDF and GSU camps to the Kerio River to save lives because their current stations give bandits a huge advantage to kill and maim,” he said.
“It’s unfortunate that this is still happening when already the highest office in the land has given express orders,” he said.
The governor said that two people have lost lives and properties lost in the last week.
“We shall never get tired fighting for the liberation of Kerio valley from these heartless culprits.”
This comes as the government through the Ministry of Defence is considering fully making the operation KDF-controlled.
The operation is now police controlled with the assistance of KDF.
The ongoing operations have seen the recovery of more than 47 guns and the arrest of bandits.
