In a fiery Twitter tirade, the owner of X and eccentric billionaire Elon Musk called for the immediate dismissal of Disney CEO Bob Iger.
Musk criticized Iger for Disney’s decision to pull ads from his embattled social media platform, insisting that Iger should be ousted from his position.
Expressing his discontent on Twitter, Musk, known for using his platform to confront critics, stated, “He should be fired immediately.
Walt Disney is turning in his grave over what Bob has done to his company.”
Disney representatives have not responded to Musk’s comments at the time of reporting.
Bob Iger is widely recognized for steering Disney’s success with strategic acquisitions, including Star Wars, Marvel Studios, and Pixar, during his previous tenure as CEO.
Last month, Disney, along with several other major companies, halted advertising on X after Musk endorsed an antisemitic conspiracy theory.
Musk offered a tacit apology last week but also delivered a profanity-laced message to companies abandoning X.
Speaking at The New York Times DealBook Summit, Musk specifically targeted Iger, criticizing Disney’s decision to cease advertising on X because of Musk’s association.
Iger explained, “We just felt that the association with Elon Musk and X was not necessarily a positive one for us.”
The move to pull ads coincided with a broader trend on X since Musk took over in late 2022.
His decisions have contributed to an increase in hate speech, misinformation, and conspiracy theories on the platform.
Musk himself has added to X’s toxicity by promoting false and dangerous conspiracy theories, including the debunked Pizzagate theory.
Since acquiring the platform, he has attacked the press, criticized the Anti-Defamation League, and amplified extremist voices.
The loss of major advertising partners has severely impacted X’s finances, as the platform relies heavily on ad revenue.
Musk acknowledged at the DealBook Summit that the advertising boycott could lead to the demise of his company, stating, “What this advertising boycott is going to do, it’s going to kill the company.”
However, Musk has not taken personal responsibility for X’s dire state. Instead, he shifts the blame to advertisers, suggesting they will be responsible for X’s potential downfall.
