The social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, is back online after experiencing a worldwide disruption on Thursday.
The issue began around 5 am UK time, and its origin remains unknown at this time.
Numerous users faced difficulties accessing the site, with almost 4,000 reports recorded on the Downdetector website by 6 am in the UK, which monitors online outages.
X users encountered problems viewing posts, receiving a “Welcome to X!” message instead.
Meanwhile, users of X Pro, previously Tweetdeck, were met with a “Waiting for posts” notification.

Elon Musk acquired the platform in a $44 billion (£33.6 billion) deal last autumn.
Under the hashtag #TwitterDown, users who still had access shared memes related to the outage, with many playfully envisioning Facebook co-founder Mark Zuckerberg celebrating.
The disruption lasted approximately 45 minutes before timelines returned to normal.
Since Musk’s takeover, attempts to contact X’s press team have resulted in automated responses.
Initially in the form of a poo emoji, the auto-reply on Thursday stated, “Busy now, please check back later.”
The platform has experienced multiple glitches since Musk assumed control in October 2022.
Within six months of his takeover, the workforce was significantly reduced from 7,500 to around 2,000, with engineers responsible for addressing and preventing service outages among those who lost their jobs.
