Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa has reiterated his decision not to endorse the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) report and abstain from receiving his sitting allowances.
In correspondence with Parliament Clerks, Wamalwa reiterated his stance against accepting the accrued dues, citing disparities in his views compared to those presented in the NADCO report.
Wamalwa declined the offer to provide his bank details for payment facilitation, stating his previous refusal to sign the report due to fundamental disagreements, particularly concerning the failure to address the issue of reducing the cost of living.
He explicitly refused any payments associated with the process.
He stated, “This is, therefore, to formally notify you that having already made my above position public, I neither have the intention nor the inclination to change my position and/or receive the said monies, which I request be returned to the exchequer.”
Wamalwa emphasized that the committee failed to adequately address critical issues, including auditing the 2022 electoral process, addressing the cost of living, restructuring and reconstituting the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), and upholding the principles of multiparty democracy.
Despite declining the sitting allowances, Wamalwa expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve as a NADCO member and acknowledged the importance of reforming the IEBC for Kenya’s democratic stability.
“At the same time, I thank my coalition leader and Parliament for the opportunity to serve in this important capacity as a member of the NADCO committee,” he remarked.
“An independent and credible electoral and boundaries commission is vital to the future of Kenya as a stable democratic nation.”
