A man who created a fake Facebook account, pretending to be dumb and deaf, and used it to con unsuspecting women seeking jobs was arrested in Mlolongo, Machakos County.
Derrick Simiyu Wanyonyi, 27 was arrested after different women reported to JKIA police they had been robbed of cash and mobile phones at a nearby field.
He had opened a Facebook account called Househelps and Nannies Kenya and started to engage unsuspecting women looking for jobs.
More and more women came online and fell into his trap.
According to police, the suspect told those seeking jobs he is deaf and dumb but can only communicate through the channel and in writing.
One of the victims Mercy Nafula told police the impersonator claimed to be Dina Bukala and after a conversation, through social media, they agreed that she be picked up in Katani area where she was attacked and robbed.
She added she was sexually abused in the February 15 incident.
On February 22, one Olive Chepleting, 22 too reported to police she had been robbed in the same manner.
She said she was looking for a job online when she came across the same account of Househelps and Nannies Kenya with Wanyonyi who now posed as Susan Mambo and who was deaf and dumb and in need of a househelp.
They agreed that she will send a person who will pick her at the Mlolongo area.
On arrival, she met with the person who took her in the bush within JKIA where he slapped, punched, and robbed her of her mobile phone and Sh50.
On February 16, police said the same suspect also posed as Dina Bukala and robbed Alice Mutono, 26 who was seeking a job online.
The suspect robbed the woman of Sh2,000 and two mobile phones.
Police at the airport said they are investigating the incidents with an aim of establishing if there are more players.
The suspect was produced in court where the police sought more days to enable them to complete their probe.
Tens of Kenyans are conned online by cons who pose as possible agents for jobs.
