A former bodyguard of fake gold dealer Chris Obure was Monday sentenced to one year in prison.
Robert Bodo Ouko had been convicted of being in possession of a firearm that was used in a murder incident.
Milimani Senior Principal Magistrate Bernard Ochoi on Monday sentenced Ouko to 12 months imprisonment after he found that he illegally had a firearm that was used in the shooting incident where car dealer Kelvin Omwenga was killed.
Ouko was sentenced without an option of a fine.
The court had found him guilty of two counts of illegally being in possession of a firearm and ammunition which was used to commit murder without a firearm certificate.
The court also considered that Ouko was a first offender and was remorseful.
“I sentence the accused to twelve months in count one and two. The sentences to run concurrently, ” Ochoi ruled.
Ochoi said that the prosecution proved beyond reasonable doubt the two criminal charges against the accused.
He said the prosecution had demonstrated that Obure’s bodyguard Ouko was at the crime scene at Senteu Plaza where the firearm in question was used to murder Kevin Omwenga on August 21, 2020.

The prosecution had called eight witnesses in the case to prove their case against the duo.
However, in November 2022, Obure who was charged in 2020 with failing to secure a firearm that was used in the murder of Omwenga was acquitted.
Ochoi also freed Obure on a charge of being in possession of a firearm without a license on lack of evidence.
The magistrate ruled that the prosecution failed to prove beyond reasonable doubt the two criminal charges against him.
Obure is a known fake gold dealer.
It is believed the killing of Omwenga was motivated by the fake gold deal that he was to seal the weekend he was murdered.
Obure and Ouko are facing murder charges of Omwenga.
