Police in Kirinyaga County are currently investigating a tragic incident at Getuya village in Ndia Constituency, where a 45-year-old woman perished in a fire on Sunday night.
The woman’s body was discovered severely burnt inside her house after local residents managed to extinguish the flames.
Kirinyaga West sub-county police commander Moses Koskei confirmed the discovery, noting that the homeowner, a clergyman, was away at church when the fire broke out.
Shocked neighbors reported that the reverend, affiliated with an Anglican church in Mwea, was alerted by the Assistant Chief after neighbors raised an alarm.
The deceased, who was responsible for caring for the homestead in the absence of the homeowner and whose wife is a church leader in another congregation, tragically lost her life in the blaze.
Police have initiated an investigation into the incident to determine the cause of the fire and assess the extent of property damage incurred.
“We are yet to establish the cause of the fire and the extent of the property damage,” Koskei stated, emphasizing the ongoing nature of the investigation.
The community remains shaken by the incident, with local authorities and relatives of the homeowner cooperating with law enforcement to uncover the circumstances surrounding this devastating event.
