Police in Butula, Busia County, arrested a 32-year-old man after his eight-year-old son was found dead inside their house under circumstances being investigated as murder.
The deceased was found lying on a couch inside his father’s house in Tingolo on Sunday, September 20, 2026.
Police officers visited the scene and found the boy dead, with no physically visible injuries on his body.
The boy’s father was arrested and detained pending investigations.
Police said the suspect had allegedly been seen punishing the child for an unknown reason shortly before the boy was found dead.
However, he reportedly told investigators that his son had been sick and was undergoing treatment before he died.
Detectives processed the scene before the body was removed and taken to Sega Same-Day Mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination.
The autopsy is expected to help establish the cause of the boy’s death as investigations continue.
Meanwhile, police in Njoro, Nakuru County, are investigating an incident in which a 14-year-old boy allegedly had his right hand chopped off while reportedly stealing potatoes from a storage facility.
The incident occurred on Sunday, September 20, 2026, at Tirkwet village in Masaita Sub-Location, Nessuit Location.
The victim, a Grade Seven pupil at Mesipei Comprehensive School, was allegedly attacked while inside a potato store belonging to a local.
According to the police the boy was allegedly caught stealing potatoes from the store when a man reportedly attacked him using a Maasai sword.
Police officers who responded to the incident recovered the severed right hand inside the potato store together with the sword believed to have been used in the attack.
The boy was rushed to Nakuru Provincial General Hospital for treatment.
Police processed the scene and took the sword to Nessuit Police Station for safe custody as investigations continued.
The amputated hand was transported to the Egerton University mortuary for preservation.
Investigations are underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the assault and determine the appropriate action against the suspect.
