Salim Swaleh, the former Director of Media Services in the office of the Prime Minister, has issued a heartfelt apology following recent allegations against him.
In a video message, Swaleh expressed deep regret for betraying the trust that had been established over many years.
In the video, Swaleh addressed a key figure in his life, saying, “You have been like a father to me, and over the past year and a half, I have dedicated myself to serving you and your office with the utmost diligence.
I acknowledge that I have broken that trust, and for that, I am truly sorry.”
Swaleh revealed that the past few months have been exceptionally challenging for him, both emotionally and financially.
He admitted that he has been unable to leave his house due to the negative publicity he has received, which has led him to contemplate suicide.
“The last month has been extremely tough.
The notoriety I’ve gained has overwhelmed me, and I’ve been struggling with dark thoughts.
I feel as though everything has fallen apart,” he shared.
He also mentioned his financial difficulties, noting that his salary has been suspended and he is facing mounting bills and outstanding loans.
“With my salary halted and bills piling up, I am in a difficult position. I ask for your forgiveness and any assistance you can offer to help me rebuild my life,” he pleaded.
Swaleh and four colleagues are accused of conspiring to defraud Sh5.8 million from a consulting firm.
The alleged offenses took place between June 4, 2014, and June 22, 2014, within the office of the Prime Minister in Nairobi County.
