A devastating incident occurred in Shauri Moyo Estate, Nairobi, on Friday morning, September 13, when a sewer line excavation unexpectedly collapsed, claiming the lives of four individuals.
Emergency services promptly responded to the scene to assist with the rescue operation.
Dr. Resila Atieno Onyango, spokesperson for the National Police Service (NPS), provided a grim update on the situation,
Revealing that rescue teams are still working diligently to reach those who may be trapped under the debris.
“We have recovered four bodies from the site following the collapse,” Dr. Onyango reported.
The collapse happened while the victims were working on excavating a sewer line.
According to Dr. Onyango, “The incident occurred during the excavation process.
We have confirmed four fatalities and have successfully rescued three individuals.”
As of the latest update, community members had managed to rescue two people, while six others are still feared to be trapped under the rubble.
In response, a combined effort from the Nairobi City County Fire Brigade, Kenya Red Cross, the National Police Service, and
Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) Ambulance is underway to assist in the rescue and recovery operation.
The Kenya Red Cross has confirmed that the rescued individuals have been taken to Mama Lucy Hospital for medical treatment.
“Three individuals have been successfully rescued and transported to Mama Lucy Hospital.
This achievement is the result of the collaborative efforts of the Nairobi City County Fire Brigade, NMS Ambulance, Kenya Red Cross, and
Kenya Police,” a statement from the Red Cross read.
