Four police officers have been presented before the court regarding the alleged theft of Sh2.2 million intended for the remuneration of casual workers at a private school in Utawala, Embakasi Sub-County, Nairobi.
The incident purportedly occurred on June 2, with the money reportedly taken from a secured vehicle parked outside Rophine International School.
The accused individuals include Sergeant Antony Ndegwa, Corporal Daniel Lekakeny, and Constable Antony Mwendwa, all serving as officers in the Directorate of Criminal Investigations at Kasarani, alongside Constable Simon Macharia from Ruai Police Station. Notably, their apprehension on June 6 at Kasarani Police Station car park led to the recovery of over Sh400,000.
Accompanying them in custody are Young Wakhisi and Lukas Magoiga Chacha, both implicated in the case.
All six suspects appeared before Milimani Senior Resident Magistrate Geoffrey Onsarigo for further legal proceedings.
Inspector Dominic Omondi, heading the investigation, sought a fortnight to wrap up inquiries into the matter.
The complainant, Mr. Victor Owino, an accountant at Rophine International School, reported withdrawing Sh2,361,000 from Family Bank Utawala branch on June 3, intended for salary disbursement to employees.
In light of these developments, the magistrate ordered the suspects’ detention at Kayole Police Station pending subsequent directives from the court.
The case underscores the gravity of alleged misconduct among law enforcement personnel and the imperative for swift and impartial judicial processes in addressing such allegations.
