Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and his allies sustained their onslaught against President William Ruto’s camp over plans to impeach the second in command.
Speaking on Sunday during a church service in Thika, Gachagua warned Ruto that if the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party is not put in order, then he risks losing the trust of the Mt. Kenya people and that nothing can be done to salvage the situation.
Referring to the difficulty Ruto endured during his time as Deputy President, Gachagua said that no one will ever trust him again if he (Ruto) allows his allies to humiliate him (Gachagua).
“Ruto made one promise which does not require any funding, it does not require IMF or the World Bank.
He promised that under his watch he would not allow his deputy to be humiliated.
If he cannot keep that one promise, then there is no other thing people can trust him with,” Gachagua said.
Together with his allies, the DP also accused Raila Odinga’s ODM party of fomenting chaos within Kenya Kwanza, with immediate former UDA Secretary General Cleopas Malala claiming Suna East MP Junet Mohamed and his Homabay Town counterpart Peter Kaluma are set to table an impeachment motion against Gachagua next week.
Speakers at the service who included Malala, Gathoni wa Muchomba, Karungo Thangwa and Mejjadonk argued that if the motion is tabled in Parliament, then Ruto must have authorised and okayed it.
Gachagua warned that Ruto risks losing the support of the Mt. Kenya region if his allies go ahead with the impeachment plan.
“I want to urge President Ruto to put his house in order and allow us to work. We have a mandate to fulfil to the Kenyan people, we need to get down to work,” he added.
Malala urged Ruto to block the alleged plan of impeaching Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.
Malala argued that the alleged plan to oust Gachagua will also bite President Ruto in the next general election.
“I am not qualified to advise but these people you want to use to oust your deputy who stood with you, you might be thinking that you are impeaching Rigathi Gachagua but you have started the journey of removing yourself,” he said.
“The same people who are moving that motion, and I am being told that they have selected Junet Mohamed and Peter Kaluma, will start by removing your deputy but I assure you those same people will remove you as president.”
He therefore urged the President to crack the whip and end the political friction with his deputy, noting that Gachagua’s loyalty to him has even seen the DP arrested.
“Please call your house to order, don’t punish Rigathi Gachagua.
This man was humiliated in front of his children, he was arrested because of you William Ruto.
We urge you not to be inhuman,” he said.
Malala’s sentiments were echoed by Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba who claimed that a plan is being hatched to present the impeachment motion in Parliament next week.
“We hate betrayal.
The impeachment is being planned and those people who are being used to sign it are the same ones who insulted and humiliated.
My president, please remember,” she said.
“Kiambu County gave you (Ruto) 606,000 votes.
Respect those votes and let Rigathi Gachagua do his job.”
This comes amid rumours that the relationship between the President and DP Gachagua has turned sour and Gachagua is getting the short end of the stick.
Gachagua even intimated that in-house politicking within UDA and the umbrella Kenya Kwanza outfit has seen leaders insulting him and they remain unchecked.
Gachagua called on President Ruto to protect him from the constant insults, reminding him of the promise made during the 2022 campaign season.
