Early Tuesday morning at Piai Trading Centre in Murinduko Ward, Mwea-East Sub-County, Kirinyaga County, a suspected gangster was killed, and two others were apprehended with gunshot injuries.
The three men were among a group of over six individuals attempting to break into a shop when they were confronted by patrolling police officers.
According to Mwea-East Police Commander Patrick Nyaanga, the incident occurred around 2 a.m. when officers from Piai and Itangi stations came across the gang.
Upon being challenged, the suspects tried to escape, leading the police to open fire.
One suspect was fatally shot, while two others sustained injuries and were taken into custody.
“The two injured suspects have been transported to the hospital, and we are actively searching for the remaining members of the gang,” Nyaanga stated.
The police recovered both the vehicle used by the suspects and several stolen items. Nyaanga noted that the apprehended suspects have confessed to their criminal activities.
The police commander reassured the community that night patrols will persist throughout Mwea-East Sub-County until all criminals are captured.
“We have been tracking these individuals closely. If you are involved in criminal activities, we will find you,” he warned.
The deceased suspect’s body has been transported to Kerugoya Hospital mortuary for further investigation.
