The government has implemented heightened precautionary measures following the confirmation of a typhoid fever case in the country.
On Thursday, Mary Muthoni, Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Professional Standards, announced that a single case of typhoid was identified at the Taita Taveta border.
The affected individual has been isolated for treatment.
Muthoni made the announcement during a visit to Bekam Hotel in Kirinyaga County, where she was participating in a session focused on the development and training of Community Health Workers (CHWs).
She assured the public that authorities are actively monitoring individuals who had contact with the infected person to prevent further spread of the disease.
In a related matter, Muthoni also reported that a trailer driver at the border, who was diagnosed with Mpox, has had his journey halted.
Officials are currently investigating the extent of his interactions with other individuals to assess potential risks.
A specialized team of public health officers has been deployed to Taita Taveta to track and monitor anyone who may have come into contact with the typhoid patient.
Their mission includes enhancing surveillance and containment efforts in the region.
Furthermore, the government has bolstered surveillance across all 32 border crossing points nationwide to ensure early detection and swift response to any emerging health threats.
These measures aim to mitigate the risk of an outbreak and safeguard public health.
