According to Ndindi Nyoro, Chairman of the National Assembly Budget and Appropriation Committee, the government is set to absorb a significant number of intern teachers into permanent and pensionable positions in the upcoming 2024/25 Financial Year.
Nyoro also disclosed plans for the hiring of an additional 20,000 intern teachers through the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
In his statement, Nyoro outlined the financial commitment made by the National Assembly, stating, “Sh26.3 billion has been allocated to accommodate the recruitment of new interns and to confirm the current intern teachers on Permanent and Pensionable terms.”
Addressing a church fundraiser in Kesses Sub County, Uasin Gishu County, Nyoro emphasized the government’s dedication to alleviating the shortage of teachers in public primary and secondary schools across the nation, particularly in light of the 100 percent transition policy.
He reiterated the government’s promise to fulfill President William Ruto’s pledge of permanent employment for the current 26,000 intern teachers and the recruitment of an additional 20,000 interns in the next fiscal year.
Nyoro emphasized the government’s commitment to equitable development, stating, “Under the leadership of President Ruto, the Kenya Kwanza government will ensure that development projects are evenly distributed across the country, regardless of voting patterns in the 2022 elections.”
The fundraiser saw the participation of various leaders, including Oscar Sudi (MP Kapseret), Johana Ngeno (Emurua Dikir), Josses Lelmengit (Emgwen), Joseph Wainana (Nominated), Peter Salasya Mumias East, and David Kiplagat (Soy).
Also present were Uasin Gishu Senator Jackson Mandago, Trans Nzoia Senator Allan Chesang, Uasin Gishu Governor Dr. Jonathan Bii, and Principal Secretary for Immigration Julius Bittock.
Regarding rumors of internal discord within the Kenya Kwanza party, leaders dismissed such claims as propaganda aimed at sowing division. Nominated MP Joseph Wainaina affirmed unity among Mount Kenya leaders under Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, refuting allegations of diminishing support within the region.
