Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen Saturday announced a major government initiative aimed at empowering youth in Kerio Valley who have abandoned banditry and surrendered illegal firearms.
Speaking during the funeral of Mama Pauline Kipkore, aunt to Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi, Murkomen outlined a comprehensive plan to reintegrate former combatants into society through technical training and economic empowerment.
“The government will support these young people to join technical training colleges and start sustainable income-generating projects.
We are committed to helping them build a better future,” said Murkomen.
The Cabinet Secretary commended youths in Elgeyo Marakwet County who have already handed in their weapons and appealed to others in Tiaty (Baringo County) and West Pokot to follow suit.
In a broader move to improve security and accessibility in the region, Murkomen also revealed that the government has allocated Sh1 billion for the construction and opening of roads across Kerio Valley.
“Improved infrastructure is critical for effective policing, development, and peace.
This investment will help us stabilize the region for the long term,” he added.
