Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo has provided an update on the construction of the 40.5-kilometre Marindi–Magina–Pala–Oria Bridge Road in Homa Bay County.
In a statement on Wednesday, November 4, Omollo said the project was commissioned by President William Ruto in May 2025 to improve connectivity between Homa Bay Town and Ndhiwa constituencies.
The road forms part of the wider Gor Mahia Ring Road project, which is being implemented by the Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) and fully funded by the National Government.
Omollo said the infrastructure upgrade is expected to improve transport links for communities in the region while supporting economic activities and access to essential services.
Once completed, the road is expected to shorten travel times, lower transportation costs and improve access to markets for farmers, traders and other local businesses.
The PS noted that improved road connectivity would also strengthen the agricultural sector by making it easier to transport sugarcane, fish and other farm produce to markets and processing facilities.

He added that the project would support agro-processing, local industries and tourism by improving access to economic opportunities across the region.
Beyond its economic benefits, Omollo said the road would enhance security and public service delivery by enabling security officers to respond more quickly to incidents and strengthening government administration at the grassroots level.
The improved transport network is also expected to make healthcare facilities, schools and other essential services more accessible to residents.
The update comes weeks after Omollo reported progress on the upgrading of the Stella–Sibuoche–Gogo Falls Road to bitumen standards in Uriri Constituency, Migori County.
In a statement issued on Friday, October 23, the PS described the project as the first tarmac road to be constructed in the constituency since independence.
He said the project was part of the National Government’s broader infrastructure programme covering more than 1,490 kilometres of roads under construction, planned or undergoing upgrades across the Nyanza region.
