Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir has publicly responded to the ongoing sexual assault case involving a local blogger who criticized him.
Following the arrest of Mohamed Hussein, the County Executive Committee member for Lands and Urban Planning, in connection with the case, Governor Nassir has distanced himself from the allegations, asserting they are politically motivated.
In a recent statement, Nassir expressed his concerns about the political climate surrounding the case, saying,
“Those who have been abusing and criticizing us will see what we do in 2027. We’ll remind everyone of the wrongs you’ve done to our people.”
He emphasized that the allegations against him and his associates are unfounded.
The case has garnered significant attention, particularly after family members of CEC Hussein claimed he was abducted while having lunch at a restaurant in Mombasa.
They described the incident as part of a series of politically charged attacks against supporters of the governor.
This controversy comes on the heels of four suspects being charged in Shanzu Court with the rape and abduction of the blogger.
The suspects have denied the charges, which stem from an alleged incident on September 12.
Authorities believe that the case may have been triggered by the blogger’s critical TikTok video aimed at the governor.
Nassir’s mother has also been implicated, with police suspecting she may have assisted some suspects in fleeing.
Investigators are currently searching for additional individuals believed to be involved in the assault.
The case continues to unfold, raising questions about the intersection of politics and personal safety in Mombasa.
