Wavinya Ndeti, Governor of Machakos, has firmly rebutted recent accusations alleging that she smuggled millions of shillings out of Kenya.
These claims, which have been widely circulated on social media, suggest that she encountered difficulties abroad due to a banking issue involving significant sums of money.
Rumors implied that a bank in the U.K. refused to process the funds, leading to Ndeti’s purported detention in the country.
In a statement released on September 9, Governor Ndeti categorically denied these allegations, branding them as false and part of a smear campaign orchestrated by her political adversaries.
She criticized the rumors as insulting and demeaning, asserting that it is inconceivable to smuggle such large amounts of money given the stringent regulations of U.K. customs and financial institutions.
“It is both demeaning and an insult to the intelligence of the people of Machakos and Kenya to suggest that I could smuggle hundreds of millions of shillings into the United Kingdom and face detention,” Ndeti stated.
“Those spreading these falsehoods clearly lack understanding of the rigorous checks conducted by U.K. Customs and Financial Institutions.
I assure you that my family and I are safe and well, both at home and abroad.”
Governor Ndeti also announced her intention to pursue legal action against those responsible for disseminating these defamatory claims.
She condemned the misuse of electronic media to propagate false information, which she believes has jeopardized her and her family’s safety.
“This is a case of defamation and the improper use of digital platforms to spread misinformation. Such malicious rumors have created harmful perceptions about me and my family, endangering our lives,” she warned.
“The individuals behind these fabrications will be held accountable if any harm comes to me or my family.”
Ndeti reassured her supporters of her safety and her family’s well-being, and committed to seeking justice against those spreading false claims.
Her response has elicited mixed reactions from the public, with some expressing support and condemning the false reports, while others are calling for a thorough investigation to clarify the situation and ensure accountability.
