The government is calling on its officers to enhance the security of records and data accessed through the internet.
Raymond Omollo, Principal Secretary for Internal Security and National Administration, highlighted this directive during the conclusion of a Cloud Computing Security training session held in collaboration with Huawei on Wednesday.
Omollo acknowledged the benefits that technology has brought to government services but also pointed out the accompanying challenges.
He stressed the importance of adopting cloud technology, stating, “The use of cloud technology has become essential for governments, businesses, and organizations worldwide.
However, these advancements bring increased risks to data security, privacy, and integrity.
With cyberattacks growing more sophisticated, implementing robust cloud security measures is crucial.”
The training, aimed at bolstering Kenya’s cloud computing security, is part of a broader initiative to improve cybersecurity through ongoing training and adherence to international standards.
Steven Zhang, Huawei Kenya’s Deputy CEO for Public Affairs, noted that this training is a continuation of efforts to enhance the skills of government officers and support Kenya’s cybersecurity framework.
Coordinated by the National Computer and Cybercrime Coordination Committee (NC4) under the Ministry of Interior and National Administration, the program has provided training to over 200 officers.
This initiative aligns with Kenya’s National Cybersecurity Strategy and supports the government’s digitalization and e-services agenda.
Omollo emphasized that the training was timely and crucial for equipping officers with the necessary skills to safeguard the country’s digital infrastructure.
He highlighted that cybersecurity is vital for national security, economic growth, and innovation.
The PS also pointed out the government’s commitment to mitigating cyber risks that could disrupt essential online services.
Zhang expressed appreciation for the opportunity to collaborate with the Kenyan government, assuring that Huawei will continue to deliver secure, high-quality products and support capacity building in Kenya’s cybersecurity sector.
