A group of protesters on Wednesday night staged a protest outside Milimani court, Nairobi over delays to charge former Eastleigh-based cop Ahmed Rashid.
The group of about 30 stayed at the court up to 9 pm shouting and screaming as they condemned those opposed to having Rashid charged.
It took the intervention of the commandant of the Judicial Police Unit Jairus Opicho to calm down the group and vowed to take their complaints to the relevant authorities.
The High Court last month deferred the murder plea for the alleged killer cop to March 3.
Justice Kanyi Kimondo deferred the plea that was scheduled for February 9 pending his ruling on whether he allow his prosecution or not.
The court heard the application by Rashid challenging his plea taking
The plea-taking of sergeant Rashid had been adjourned to February 9.
This is after the prosecution said there was no mental assessment report before the court.
In a virtual session, Rashid appeared before the court and said he was in Garissa attending to a family issue.
Kimondo then ordered Rashid to present himself to the County Criminal Investigation Officer (CCIO) Garissa, who was to escort him back to Nairobi for mental assessment at Mathari Mental Hospital.
Kimondo further said thereafter he can be granted a bond by the officer commanding station.
The plea will be taken virtually and Rashid has to be before a police officer.
