At least eight people were Thursday killed in cold blood and three others injured in a bandit attack at Yell Kurkum village in Laisamis, Marsabit County.
Among the killed were three children and five men, police said.
Eastern police commander Rono Bunei said about 15 bandits armed with firearms raided the village at around 6 am on Thursday.
According to the police commander, the bandits made away with an unknown number of camels and goats during the dawn attack.
Two of the injured were taken to Marsabit Referral Hospital while one of the victims was set to be airlifted to Nairobi for specialized treatment.
A multi-agency security team was deployed to pursue the attackers, police said.
Such attacks are common as raiders strike for livestock leaving a trail of deaths and injuries.
There are fears the affected clan will retaliate.
Tension remain in the area as security agents rushed there to tame more attacks.
