Relatives and friends of slain Wells Fargo manager Willis Ayieko are demanding a thorough investigation into his murder, rejecting claims that his death occurred during a robbery.
Hundreds of mourners gathered on Saturday in Ongiende, Alego, Siaya County, to bid their final farewells to the beloved community leader.
Family members and friends remembered Ayieko for his unwavering commitment to his family and community.
His widow, Esther Wagumba, spoke emotionally about the profound impact he had on their lives.
“The humor, happiness, and joy you brought into our lives will never be matched. I am a better person because of you, and I will always love you,” she said.
Ayieko’s sister, Janet Ngonga, also shared heartfelt memories.
“Willis loved us as sisters, and I’m so happy he had the best. He was there for all our graduations and even had his wedding in my house,” Ngonga recalled.
Leaders from both sides of the political spectrum joined the mourners in condemning the rise in insecurity across the country.
They expressed frustration with the slow progress of investigations into Ayieko’s murder, accusing the authorities of failing to uncover the true motive behind the crime.
“We must express our displeasure with these abductions and killings,” said Ugenya MP David Ochieng.
“We blame the police for creating the impression that one can commit such acts and get away with them.
We don’t want theories; we want to know who killed Ayieko and why.”
Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo also weighed in, calling on security forces to take stronger action.
“The absence of security is either caused by negligence or outright tolerance from the security forces.
They need to step up their efforts. The patterns of these killings are not ordinary,” Amollo said.
Ayieko is survived by his widow and two children, who are left to mourn the loss of a man who was deeply loved by his family and community.
