Kisa East MCA Stephen Maloba succumbed to stab injuries after being caught in a scuffle with people believed to have links with Khwisero MP Christopher Aseka.
Police explained Maloba was stabbed at the entrance of a venue he tried to access where Aseka was.
Maloba was headed to the event Saturday morning in the company of his supporters when they were confronted by another group prompting a confrontation.
Aseka had a consultative meeting at the home of one Clement Omboko.
In the process, Maloba who was on foot was stabbed in the left armpit.
He was rushed to Mbale hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Khwisero OCPD Samuel Kogo confirmed the incident happened at a public meeting.
He said they are looking for the suspected assailants.
“We can’t say what the motive was for now but we are looking for suspects,” he said.
Maloba, who was voted on a KANU ticket died at about 11.30 am.
Police said they are looking for the assailant.
