Police in Kisii have launched investigations after a human leg was discovered inside a box in Shirikisho Estate, Kitutu Central Sub-County.
grisly discovery was reported on Saturday, September 5, 2026.
Police officers visited the scene at Kiamwasia Sub-Location.
Upon examination, officers found a box containing a wrapped object covered in a bandage and nylon paper.
When the package was opened, investigators discovered what appeared to be a human right leg that had been severed below the knee.
The body part was documented at the scene before being transported to the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary.
Police said the remains are being preserved at the morgue pending identification as investigations continue to establish the identity of the deceased and the circumstances under which the limb was severed.
Detectives are expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the discovery and establish whether the body part is connected to any missing-person or murder case reported in the area.
Investigations into the disturbing discovery are ongoing.
And a 25-year-old man was killed and a house torched after rowdy youth clashed during a funeral procession in Awendo, Migori County.
Felix Owino, a resident of the area, was allegedly assaulted with a panga during the confrontation on Saturday evening as mourners escorted the body of another man to his rural home ahead of his burial.
The body being escorted belonged to Hesborn Oketch Owuor, alias “Pai”, who was murdered on August 10, 2026.
His remains were being taken home in preparation for his burial on Sunday, September 6.
Police said a fight broke out among rowdy youth during the procession.
Owino was allegedly assaulted during the confrontation and sustained serious injuries. He later succumbed to the injuries.
Police visited the scene and found the deceased’s body with visible injuries to the face.
The scene was processed before the body was moved to Rapcom Hospital Mortuary in Awendo, where it was preserved pending a postmortem examination.
The confrontation also resulted in the burning of a semi-permanent house, with property of unknown value destroyed in the fire.
Police said the situation remained tense following the incident and enhanced security patrols had been deployed in the area to prevent further violence.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding Owino’s death, the house fire and the events that triggered the confrontation are ongoing.
