Detectives are on the hunt for a man suspected of killing his wife in Ogwedhi Market, Migori County.
Jackline Pilli, 31, was found dead in her bed several days after she went missing.
Her body, which had been decomposing for some time, was discovered on Wednesday night, though she had not been seen since Sunday.
Police believe Jackline was murdered on Sunday night, with her body left in the home.
Her husband had been absent from work since Monday, but it wasn’t until Wednesday that her body was found.
Jackline’s sister reported that her brother-in-law had initially called her, claiming Jackline was seriously ill.
However, when she attempted to return the call, she found his phone was off.
Concerned for her sister’s well-being, she went to the Ogwedhi Market, where Jackline operated a hotel.
There, she learned from staff that Jackline had last been seen on Monday morning.
Jackline had reportedly left to resolve a family dispute with her husband, who was the only other person in the house at the time.
When Jackline’s sister and hotel staff went to her house, they found it locked from the outside.
They contacted the police, who forced entry and discovered Jackline’s body on the floor near her bed.
The body was covered with a sheet and bound around the neck, with blood visible from her nose.
The body has been taken to Migori County Referral Hospital for an autopsy.
Authorities are now searching for the suspect, who is known to them, to determine the motive behind the murder and to effect an arrest.
