Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki has given an order that allows police to use deadly force against criminals who target police officers or their camps.
He said this during the opening of a General Service Unit (GSU) camp in Tiaty Constituency, Baringo County.
Kindiki stated that criminals who harm those responsible for protecting Kenyan citizens will be dealt with severely.
He also mentioned that the government is committed to putting an end to insecurity in the region.
To achieve this, the government plans to establish more camps in Tiaty to tackle the ongoing problem of banditry.
Tiaty Member of Parliament William Kamket welcomed the opening of the GSU camp and urged the government to assign more administrative units to take back areas that have become safe havens for bandits.
Kamket also called for the deployment of National Police Reservists to assist the GSU officers in capturing the bandits who continue to cause trouble in the area.
The Interior Cabinet Secretary assured that they would enlist police reservists in Tiaty and West Pokot if they surrendered their illegal firearms.
For a long time, Silale has been a place where bandits hide and launch attacks in nearby Samburu and Turkana counties.
Just recently, three people lost their lives in a banditry attack in Baragoi, Samburu County.
