The Independent Police Oversight Authority (IPOA) has strongly denounced the assault on a police officer in Kasarani on Sunday, as confirmed by IPOA Chairperson Anne Makori on Monday.
Corporal Jacob Ogendo was attacked while carrying out traffic management duties on Kamiti Road in Kasarani.
In a statement, Makori underscored that all suspects involved in the assault are currently under police custody.
Expressing deep concern over the incident, Makori emphasized how such assaults impede security provision and erode the rule of law.
Furthermore, he highlighted that such actions infringe upon the public’s constitutional right to receive quality police services.
Makori urged dissatisfied Kenyans to channel their complaints regarding police services or officers to IPOA through the toll-free number 1559, rather than resorting to violence against law enforcement personnel.
Additionally, Makori disclosed that IPOA has launched an investigation into the tragic death of a child while in police custody at Kambuu Police Station in Makueni County.
IPOA officials have already visited the scene and interviewed witnesses as part of the ongoing investigation aimed at uncovering the circumstances surrounding the child’s demise.
Makori assured that upon completion of the investigation, IPOA would recommend prosecution where applicable.
The child was reportedly in custody with Zipporah Mutheu’s mother.
The incident highlights the crucial role of IPOA in ensuring accountability within law enforcement agencies and upholding citizens’ rights.
