The Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) Monday launched investigations into the extrajudicial murder of two men on Sunday in Murang’a.
Chairperson Anne Makori on Monday, IPOA said a team has already been dispatched to the region and has since established that police officers were part of the incident.
Makori added that the appropriate action shall be taken upon conclusion of the investigations.
This came as emerged saga leaked following a dispute between the team that had been involved in the hunt for suspects who were involved in a bank heist at Unaitas Sacco in Kigumo.
The dispute was on how to share the loot with some officers allegedly missing out.
Police had initially claimed the suspects were gunned down after a “fierce shootout with police officers” in Kigumo area, Murang’a county on Sunday morning.
However, photos from the scene first showed the two suspects subdued with their hands tied together while surrounded by armed police officers.
It is not yet clear how the suspects later managed to free themselves and stage a gunfight that left them sprawled dead
The report was flagged for scrutiny on social media after speculation boiled up that police officers had earlier arrested the duo.
Two images showed the legs of the two suspected gangsters, one with camel brown shoes and black trousers while the other one had black socks with beige trousers.
DCI has remained tight-lipped on the matter as more questions arise on the story that has since been termed skeptical.
DCI says the two were part of a 6-man gang that has been on police radar.
The gang is said to have stolen an AK-47 rifle from a police officer on February 25, 2023, which was recovered after the shootout.
