Despite strong international criticism from various countries and human rights organizations, the Israeli military continues its intense offensive in the occupied West Bank.
According to the Palestinian news agency Wafa, at least 18 people have been killed since the operation began.
On the second day of its so-called “counterterrorism” campaign, the Israeli military reported killing five Palestinian fighters.
The operation, which started on Wednesday, involved coordinated raids across four northern areas: Jenin, Nablus, Tubas, and Tulkarem.
Armored units entered refugee camps in Tulkarem, Tubas, and Jenin as part of these raids.
Stephane Dujarric, spokesperson for United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, revealed that the Israeli military actions were occurring
“In close proximity to four hospitals,” with some of these facilities reportedly being surrounded.
This has disrupted the movement of medical personnel.
Guterres has called for an immediate halt to the operations.
Human rights organizations, including the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights, Al-Haq, and the Al Mezan Center for Human Rights, have expressed grave concerns about the escalating violence in the West Bank.
They warned that the tactics being used by Israeli forces bear similarities to those seen in the recent conflict in Gaza.
In a joint statement, the groups urged the international community to “take immediate action and enforce measures against Israel as mandated by international law.”
The organizations condemned the violence, particularly attacks on hospitals and excessive use of force, and called for urgent international intervention to prevent further escalation of the conflict in the West Bank.
