John Osogo Secondary School has clinched the Busia County Soccer championship for the second year in a row.
They secured their victory over Mabunge Rc from Nambale Sub County with a 4-3 win in a penalty shoot-out, following a goalless draw at St. Mathias Secondary School in Busia on Saturday.
Team captain Asman Yesir credited their success to hard work and a strong mindset.
“The game was hard, we have really worked hard and our mentality was to make another history,” he stated.
Coach Kennedy Wabwire attributed their win to early and thorough preparation, and he promised fierce competition for other schools.
“This year we started our preparation earlier and that helped us.
We have been at regionals and this time we are well prepared to compete. We must play at the National Finals,” he said.
In the girls’ category, St. Joseph Chakol retained their soccer title by defeating Kingandole Girls 1-0, with the winning goal scored by Captain Sharon Odima from a penalty kick.
Captain Odima highlighted the team’s discipline and confidence, saying, “The discipline and confidence from the girls has said it; we have trained well enough and this time we are heading to the National finals.”
Coach Antony Wekesa appealed for sponsorship to support the team, noting that Chakol Queens, who will compete in the National Super League next season, originated from these girls.
“I want these girls to be helped and be part of the team they built,” he expressed.
School Principal David Mase expressed their readiness for the East Africa Games.
“We are going to strengthen our team in a few positions and this time round, East African Finals here we come,” he said.
Both Chakol and Kingandole have qualified for the Regional finals.
In other sports, Nangina Girls and Sigalame High School emerged as champions in the girls’ and boys’ categories of the basketball 3×3 competitions, respectively.
Bumala A.C Girls were crowned champions in netball and, along with Odiado Secondary School, will represent the county at the regional games.
