The Judiciary will establish a new court in Yala Township, Siaya County to ensure social transformation and access to justice in the wake of piled cases in the system.
Chief Registrar of the Judiciary Anne Amadi revealed the judiciary together with the county government have come together to set up a 1 million court structure.
She said this will save the residents of Gem time and money that they have been using to travel to either Siaya or Maseno law courts to seek justice.
Amida said the law stipulates that the judiciary should have a magistrate’s court in each sub-county.
“The law requires that we have a magistrate’s court in every sub-county and Gem is one of the sub-counties that do not have a court,” she said.
She hailed the county government of Siaya for supporting the establishment of the court, adding that the judiciary will rehabilitate the building to suit its needs before sending staff.
Siaya governor, James Orengo said the devolved unit will cooperate with the judiciary to ensure that the local residents get judicial services.
“In the administration of justice, justice delayed is justice denied,” said the Governor.
Orengo who is one of the leading constitutional lawyers in Kenya said that it is in the spirit of underscoring the principle that the county government came to the conclusion of establishing a court in Yala.
“If the courts are a distance away, then the principle is negated,” said Orengo.
