Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has revealed plans to take legal action against the government over its involvement in a $1.3 billion deal with the Adani Group.
The deal includes provisions for building power plants and expanding the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA), which could significantly impact the nation.
While attending a church service in Kajiado county, Kalonzo criticized the secrecy surrounding the agreement, arguing it would benefit only a select few in government while placing an undue burden on taxpayers.
“The lack of transparency in the government’s deal with Adani raises serious concerns and creates distrust,” Kalonzo said.
He further claimed that the secretive nature of the deal is troubling Kenyans, including himself.
Kalonzo blamed the agreement for contributing to the country’s financial struggles, emphasizing that only a handful of government officials would profit from it, while ordinary citizens would suffer.
Kalonzo announced his intent to file a lawsuit on September 23 to halt the agreement’s approval.
Additionally, he urged the government, particularly the Ministry of Education, to reconsider the new student funding system, which he said restricts access to scholarships for deserving students.
“The new funding system has caused confusion and denied students the financial support they need to attend universities,” he added.
Kalonzo’s statements have intensified tensions between the government and the Adani Group, with other leaders also calling for greater transparency and public input before moving forward with the deal.
