Martha Karua, the leader of the Narc Kenya Party, has called on the government to provide housing for flood victims through the affordable housing program, emphasizing the government’s responsibility to support affected families and meet their basic needs.
Karua highlighted the challenges faced by families affected by floods, stressing the importance of utilizing taxes to address their educational, medical, and housing requirements.
Additionally, Karua criticized the Kenya Kwanza government for the tax proposals outlined in the Finance Bill 2024, likening them to colonial-era taxation policies.
She argued that while taxes are necessary, they should not be imposed to the detriment of the poor, urging the government to consider the impact of taxation on vulnerable citizens.
The Azimio la Umoja coalition, led by Karua, condemned the proposed tax measures, warning of potential nationwide protests if they are implemented.
Kalonzo Musyoka echoed Karua’s sentiments, expressing concern over the punitive taxation that burdens Kenyans.
Eugene Wamalwa accused the government of being out of touch with the economic struggles faced by ordinary citizens, particularly those who cannot afford basic necessities due to the high cost of living.
These statements underscore the coalition’s stance on taxation and their commitment to advocating for the welfare of Kenyan citizens, especially in times of crisis and economic hardship.
