The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced the temporary closure of a section of the Southern Bypass, from the Ole Sereni Interchange to the Ngong Road Interchange, for critical repairs.
In a notice issued on December 23, KeNHA stated that the closure will begin on December 24 at 8:00 PM and will last until January 5, 2025, at midnight.
This closure is necessary to facilitate the rehabilitation of the expansion joints on all the bridges along the route and to reconstruct the concrete pavement of the Virtual Weighbridge.
Motorists who typically use this stretch of road will be diverted through Mombasa Road, Ngong Road, and Lang’ata Road during the closure period.
“All traffic will be redirected through Mombasa Road (A8), Lang’ata Road, and Ngong Road as alternative routes,” the authority confirmed.
Motorists are urged to familiarize themselves with these diversion routes and to exercise caution while navigating around the construction zones.
Traffic police and marshals will be stationed along the affected areas to manage the flow of traffic and ensure safety.
The closure is expected to cause significant disruptions to traffic flow in the city, particularly as other key roads are also undergoing works.
In a similar announcement earlier this week, KeNHA also revealed the temporary closure of a section of Kiambu Road for the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the Ruiru-Tatu City-Kiambu (B115) Road.
The closure, which affects the stretch between Kirigiti Roundabout and St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, started on December 23 and will last until January 6.
Motorists affected by this closure will be diverted via the Kirigiti-Rui Stage Junction-Kiambu Town route.
These projects are part of ongoing efforts to improve road infrastructure across the region.
