The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) has implemented a new policy prohibiting politicians from utilizing military assets, including helicopters, for their political activities.
Defense Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale made the announcement, stressing that KDF resources are solely reserved for military purposes.
In an appearance on the JK Live Show on Citizen TV, CS Duale emphasized that the policy aims to ensure KDF assets are exclusively dedicated to military operations.
“We now have a policy in the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF): we are not going to carry politicians. We will not, at all!” he declared.
Duale clarified that KDF helicopters and other assets are designated for specific military functions, such as national security, troop transportation, and security operations.
The new policy will be enforced across all KDF assets.
Regarding official duties, Duale mentioned that he and his Interior counterpart, Kithure Kindiki, are authorized to use KDF helicopters for military operations.
He explained, “When I am going for an operation, I will use the military assets, even my colleague, Minister of Interior Kithure Kindiki.
If he’s going to Boni, to the North Rift, if he is going to a place that is not secure, that is part of our operational area, the Minister for Interior will also use our assets or the police assets.”
The policy shift underscores KDF’s commitment to maintaining the integrity of its resources for military purposes, prioritizing national security and operational efficiency.
