Authorities from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) have apprehended an individual working with Kenya Power in Diani, Kwale County.
The arrest comes after allegations surfaced that the said official solicited a bribe of Ksh.100,000 from a local resident to reinstate the power supply to their premises.
According to EACC reports, Evans Otieno Ochieng, identified as a Debts Controller at Kenya Power’s Ukunda office, was caught red-handed by EACC investigators.
Ochieng had accepted an initial payment of Sh.70,000 from Godliver Anyango with the promise to reconnect her disconnected power meter.

The request for the bribe allegedly occurred on Tuesday, just a day after Ms. Anyango’s power supply was cut off by Ochieng on Monday.
EACC Spokesperson Eric Ngumbi shed light on the incident, stating, “The suspect was apprehended after the Commission received concurrence of the Director of Public Prosecutions to charge him with the offences.”
He further added, “Investigations commenced upon receipt of allegations that Ochieng, the KPLC Kwale Debts Controller, based at Ukunda Office solicited a financial advantage of Sh.100,000 as an inducement so as to reconnect the power he had disconnected on 18th October, 2021 due to accrued bills at Pine Grove Estate.”
The suspect was presented before the Kwale Law Courts on Thursday afternoon. Presently, he awaits the opportunity to respond to two counts of bribery charges.
